Simon Bremens Sound Explorer | live recording (project)
Simon Bremen's compositional process led to the search for this unusual instrumentation: the homogeneous sound of four saxophones is contrasted and complemented by a reduced rhythm section as well as a vocal voice. In doing so, rarely harmonized lines in the big band tradition emerge – instead, Bremen explores new and sometimes unexpected possibilities for combining timbres.
From moment to moment, individual instruments recede into the background while others present themselves soloistically, or the band acts as a closed unit exploring melodies, voicings, and grooves together. A varied sonic experience in which improvisation has room at every point. The live recording and subsequent studio recordings are created as part of the LOFT competition recording project 2025, which the band won the previous year.
