Ghost Funk Orchestra
Ghost Funk Orchestra is the project of composer and multi-instrumentalist Seth Applebaum and has evolved from a solo project into a ten-piece live band. The band is a "sonic kaleidoscope" that resists genre classification but draws strong influences from soul, psych-rock, salsa, and beyond. Following their label founding with the album "A Song for Paul" (2019), their sound expanded with the albums "A New Kind of Love" (2022) and "A Trip to the Moon" (2024) to include orchestral pop, lounge, and surf.
The band has shared the stage with artists such as Os Mutantes, Grace Potter, and Marco Benevento and has performed at festivals including Montreal Jazz, LEVITATION, Treefort, and Telluride Jazz. The New York blog Post-Trash described their sound as a "psych-odyssey of traditional sounds in non-traditional form," while Bandcamp editor J. Edward Keyes praised the band's ability to "overlook no funk-adjacent genre."
