Munich Jazz Salon: Thelonious Monk - Claus Raible Trio
Claus Raible, an internationally recognized jazz pianist, will perform the music of Monk with his trio and speak with Marcus Wölfle about Monk's life and work. The eccentric Monk is one of the co-founders of bebop alongside Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. He cultivated a distinctive piano style, and his compositions are equally unmistakable. His piece "Round Midnight" became a classic and remains one of the most performed jazz compositions to this day.
His guiding stars include Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, his music is bop, pure and unfiltered. In 1998, Claus returned to Munich, Germany and began dividing his time between New York and Europe. Since then, he has organized at least two tours per year in Europe with various international ensembles such as the Claus Raible Trio, Quintet, Sextet, etc. Claus works on a series of projects, among other things; "Presenting the Music of...", dedicated to great jazz composers and stylists such as Thelonious Monk, Elmo Hope, and Tadd Dameron.
