The BigBand of the Deutsche Oper Berlin presents six thematic jazz concerts in their jazz series "Jazz & Lyrics" in the Tischlerei, featuring members of the BigBand and guests in smaller formations. The concerts are dedicated to a specific theme or composer and fuse music with lyrics. Texts, biographical information, and poetry as well as background information on the respective theme make these concerts a special experience. Rüdiger Ruppert and Sebastian Krol curate the artistic program.

The evening presents significant freedom speeches and famous songs, performed by the Freedom Jazzband under the direction of Wolfgang Köhler. The concert lasts approximately 90 minutes without intermission and is followed by an Artists' Lounge.
