Jazz & Lyrics is an established concert series by the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, which presents six thematic jazz concerts in the Tischlerei with members of the Big Band and guests in smaller formations. The concerts are dedicated to a specific theme or composer and fuse music with lyrics. Texts, biographical information and poetry, as well as background information on the respective theme, make these concerts a special experience.

The artistic program is curated by Rüdiger Ruppert and Sebastian Krol. The series offers a connection of jazz with literary and poetic elements that invites the audience to a unique musical experience. The concert Jazz & Lyrics III: Hymn to Freedom takes place on April 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Tischlerei.
