Swing Manouche: Joscho Stephan Munich Connection
Joscho Stephan is one of the most influential guitarists of modern Gypsy Swing. With authentic tone, harmonic sophistication, and virtuosic solo technique, he has earned an outstanding international reputation. His style combines the tradition of the genre with Latin, classical, and rock influences, captivating concert audiences around the world.
For the "Munich Connection" project, Stephan is accompanied by two outstanding representatives of the southern German music scene: First, Raffael Müller (rhythm guitar), whose roots run deep in Gypsy Swing music. He stands for pulsing, precise rhythm playing and a warm, driving sound that provides the ideal foundation for Stephan's soloistic flights. Second, he is accompanied by Julia Hornung (double bass), who is known for her melodic and refined musical bass playing as well as her great stylistic range. She lends the trio both grounding stability and smooth
dynamics and is a fixture of the Munich Gypsy Jazz scene.
Together they form the "Munich Connection" – a trio that combines virtuosic Gypsy Jazz with fresh playing joy and characterful ensemble culture.
In this lineup, the trio has now recorded a joint album that reflects their musical connection and the special chemistry of the "Munich Connection." The new songs will be presented live for the first time in April and offer an exclusive glimpse into the trio's current work.
