Iris Kramer Quartet
The Iris Kramer Quartet stands for contemporary jazz with a clear Nordic character. The compositions, predominantly created in Iceland, are humorous, rich in timbre, and emotional – music that takes its audience along and often tells stories. The ensemble is a 3-generation band that interprets Iris Kramer's compositions, many of them inspired by Iceland, the severe storms, northern lights, and fascinating stories.
Iris Kramer grew up on the outskirts of Hamburg and began playing trumpet at age nine. In 1984, she founded the first European women's big band "Reichlich Weiblich," for which she also composed. Since 2000, Iceland has been her second home, where she has lived, worked, and made music at the Arctic Circle. In October 2024, she toured with the Iris Kramer Quartet through Iceland and performed in Reykjavik, Selfoss, and Borganes.
Iris Kramer plays trumpet and accordion and composes. Anne Diedrichsen (drums) moves stylistically between jazz, pop, folk, and improvised music and is distinguished by tonal refinement and rhythmic clarity. Andris Meinig (double bass) is a defining voice in the contemporary jazz and improvisation scene. Mischa Schumann (piano) is among the central voices of the Hamburg jazz scene.
