Fat Freddy's Drop & Groundation
The New Zealand band Fat Freddy's Drop is internationally recognized as one of the best live bands in the world and has captivated audiences since 1999 with their music blending reggae, dub, soul, techno, and jazz. As part of their "Based On A True Story 21st Anniversary Tour 2026," they celebrate the anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, with the five German dates marking their first performances since the sudden death of founding member Chris "MU" Faiumu. Groundation accompanies them at Tollwood and opens this special evening. Since 1998, Groundation has shaped the American roots reggae scene and is counted among reggae legends.
The debut "Based On A True Story" was released in 2005 as an independent production and became a milestone: the album remained in the New Zealand Top 40 for an incredible 111 weeks, won eight New Zealand Music Awards, and won at British Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Music Awards. Groundation is an American roots reggae band with jazz and dub influences from Sonoma County in Northern California, founded in 1998 by Harrison Stafford. The latest album "Candle Burning" continues the band's jazzy reggae and impeccable sound quality.
