
Perico Sambeat Flamenco Quintet
Perico Sambeat is a world-renowned alto saxophonist who is regarded as one of the great contemporary jazz musicians of our time. The acclaimed saxophonist and composer presents his album with a quintet of outstanding Spanish musicians – a music project that combines jazz and flamenco in a unique and captivating way. In this album, Sambeat and his talented quintet explore the complexity and emotional expressions of flamenco through various forms such as bulerías, tanguillos, alegrías, and seguidillas.
Perico has fundamental significance in the history of jazz and belongs to the generation that paved the way for the future of Spanish jazz in the mid to late 1980s. During his productive career, he has recorded more than twenty albums as a bandleader and more than one hundred as a sideman, with his work with major figures such as Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tete Montoliu, Michael Brecker, and Pat Metheny being noteworthy. The combination of flamenco and jazz was present in some of his most successful record productions with musicians such as Enrique Morente (1995) and Gerardo Núñez (2001).
