Günter Baby Sommer's major project pays tribute to the legendary South African-European big band "Brotherhood Of Breath" of South African composer and bandleader Chris McGregor. Günter Baby Sommer has gathered the who's who of the current improvisation scene for his Brotherhood and Sisterhood. With a female representation of almost 40 percent, established musicians such as Anke Lucks, Silke Eberhard, Lina Allemano, Anna Kaluza, and Maike Hilbig play in the band.

Günter "Baby" Sommer is a German jazz drummer, born on August 25, 1943. With his large ensemble, he revives the spirit of the British big band Brotherhood of Breath and plays a rousing mix of free jazz and South African music with German improvisers. Sommer, who experienced the legendary band live, felt compelled decades later to found his own big band.
