Billy Cobham's Time Machine - Marcus Miller
Billy Cobham is a master of fusion rhythm and is considered one of the most influential drummers of his era. He combined jazz complexity and groove with the raw power of rock and helped define jazz fusion in the early 1970s with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and alongside Miles Davis on the legendary album Bitches Brew. With Time Machine, Cobham revisits material from his 1970s repertoire, including pieces from Total Eclipse. Rather than a nostalgic return, the project puts earlier compositions in dialogue with newly written material.
On July 16, bassist Marcus Miller honors the centennial of Miles Davis' birth and brings together the backing band from the album We Want Miles! to revisit the legendary repertoire of the trumpeter. The evening will open with Billy Cobham, one of the most influential drummers of his generation and a pioneering figure in the emergence of jazz fusion in the early 1970s.
