Rebecca Trescher Tentett
Rebecca Trescher was born in 1986 in Tübingen and studied jazz clarinet and composition at the Nuremberg University of Music as well as composition at the Munich University of Music and Theater. In 2022, the Rebecca Trescher Tentet won the New German Jazz Prize in Mannheim, and Trescher herself received the German Jazz Prize for "Composition of the Year" as well as the "Rising Star Clarinet" award from DownBeat Magazine.
The Tentet distinguishes itself as a "symphonic ensemble" in that all musicians constantly change their roles – sometimes they play the melody, sometimes the accompaniment, sometimes they are part of a harmonic element or a rhythmic ostinato, or they take on an active solo role. With a rich palette of timbres, the musicians move effortlessly between musical experiments and symphonic sonorities. The Tentet's first album in 2020, "Paris Cycle | The Spirit of the Streets," was an immediate success. On May 3, 2024, Trescher's second recording for Enja was released: "Character Pieces" is grounding and ethereal at once, inspired by the changing aspects of nature.
