Lucks, Schlichting, and Marien are the miniature version of a brass band: They transcend their compact size with a rough, exuberant sound that one would expect from a much larger ensemble. They juggle changing roles between rhythm and melody, moving through an enchanting landscape of free jazz, funk, punk rock, and New Orleans brass band. Together, they open up their own pieces in every direction, driven by a mix of improvisational momentum and tightly interlocked grooves.

Since 2017, the trio has been on the road with numerous concerts in jazz clubs and at festivals, has received several grants from Musikfonds and the Berlin Senate, and has released three CDs on Tiger Moon Records. In 2023, the Insomnia Brass Band was awarded the German Jazz Prize as “Band of the Year.”
