JT424: Joel Frahm Trio – LUMINATION
Joel Frahm ranks among the world's most accomplished tenor saxophonists. After 30 years in the New York jazz scene and time in Nashville, he initially established himself as a highly skilled accompanist before reinventing himself as a bandleader with his trio "The Bright Side." With "Lumination," the ensemble presents its second album – ten original compositions marked by Frahm's extraordinary technical mastery and masterful motivic development. His solos are characterized by striking quotations, a stylistic device that Sonny Rollins perfected and that Frahm continues in a contemporary way. The playing of bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Ernesto Cervini complements this approach ideally: the musicians create an atmosphere that makes sophisticated improvisation accessible. Frahm also teaches at leading US universities, including Texas State University, and was active in the Monterey Jazz Festival's "Next Generation" program.
