Leimgruber LDL
The trio with Urs Leimgruber, Jacques Demierre, and Thomas Lehn continues the work of the quartet that, with bassist Barre Phillips who passed away at the end of 2024, explored the art of free improvisation to the point of near inaudibility. Without Phillips' freely swinging Zen bass, the music of the remaining trio sounds even more ethereal and spiritual, yet at the same time also clearer and remarkably transparent. The three musicians move with concentration and daring like free climbers on a rock wall and traverse routes that are marked on no map.
How they manage it, what it looks like and feels like there, how each of them contributes exactly what is necessary or surprising to keep their music under tension – this proves to be not only a challenge but again and again also a pleasure for the listeners."The refined sound art, the dynamic spectrum, and the space architectures of this trio are unique,"Pirmin Bossart concludes on JazzNMore.
