Nick Hempton Quartet [NYC]
Nick Hempton is a saxophonist playing bebop, hard bop, and soul jazz, influenced by legends like Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, and Cannonball Adderley. His musical style is deeply rooted in jazz traditions, with a unique flavor informed by his early experiences playing R&B and ska in Australia.
After working on cruise ships to fund his journey, Hempton moved to New York City in January 2004, believing it was the best way to pursue his jazz career. This decision proved to be right, as he quickly established himself in the New York jazz scene. From 2005 to 2016, he led The Nick Hempton Band, delivering "highly entertaining, hard-driving and solid swinging modern jazz" to major New York venues. During this period, he released four highly-praised studio albums.
Hempton has built a strong reputation as an entertaining and energetic frontman, performing in various formats from organ bands to hard bop quartets. He's an in-demand musician who has toured throughout the US, Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia. His latest album "Slick" was released to much acclaim in November 2021.
