Fred Wesley Generations
Fred Wesley is considered one of the most influential trombonists in funk and soul music. With James Brown and the JBs, he shaped the sound of an era and is described by Rolling Stone as "the world's most famous sideman," who instrumentalized the characteristic grooves of funk. Wesley was Musical Director and composer for James Brown for seven years and performed with artists such as Ray Charles, Count Basie, Maceo Parker, Tina Turner, Prince, and Usher.
Wesley and Maceo Parker played a decisive role in elevating funk to a new level. His work is recognized in documentaries such as "Soul Power" and the Oscar-winning "When We Were Kings" as a pioneer of modern funk, rap, and hip hop. He has composed countless hits and is among the most sampled horn players in the world—his pieces have been sampled by Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson.
