The Robert Cray Band
Robert Cray is an American blues guitarist and singer who has won five Grammy Awards. Since 1974, Robert Cray Band has toured and recorded their unique groove music, born from a love of soul, R&B, gospel, blues, and rock 'n' roll. His sound combines Memphis soul-infused vocals with a clean, melodic Fender guitar sound, steering away from dramatic guitar solos and instead blending vocals, groove, band, and guitar in a song-centered performance.
The first version of Robert Cray Band was founded in 1974, with Robert and harmonica player Curtis Salgado as singers and frontmen, constantly touring the Northwest and California. The band caught the attention of Albert Collins, who selected the Cray Band and Robert received guidance and inspiration from the "Master of The Telecaster," who became his lifelong friend. By the end of the 1980s, Cray was an opening act for major stars like Eric Clapton and sold out larger venues as a solo artist.
