A Carole King inspired concert
Music as a refuge, as home within oneself, or as a means of expressing countless emotional worlds – Carole King's songs embody all of this for singer and stage artist Eva Maria Balkenhol. She too loves telling stories through music. Another connection unites the two artists: a love of the forest and its untouched green expanses. King once described this feeling as being "wrapped in a warm blanket of nature" and always used her ranch in Idaho as a place of rest in contrast to her life on stage. She searched for home within herself, in relationships, and for a place in the world that would bring her peace. All of this inspired Eva to create this multifaceted program, in which she and her musicians give voice to this longing for connection. The chaos of our existence finds meaning in this musical journey – and the connecting element is unmistakably love. Many already know Eva from blues projects like "Eva's Love Train" or the chanson gypsy swing jazz band "Pas de Fromage," with which she has moved audiences through her distinctive blend of musical intensity, humor, and playful theatricality.
Udo Krüger is also inspired by King's characteristically powerful playing on the grand piano. The pianist, already well known at the Theaterstübchen, transforms the songs in his own attentive and sensitive way into stories with sonic depth. Authentic original interpretations emerge from the interplay of the band with world music percussionist Job Verweijen, who has repeatedly left Kassel in amazed upheaval with his extraordinary instruments and creatively sensitive playing. Saxophonist Michael Frei also returns to Eva's side and delights with melancholically warm or jazzy playing. Thus philosophical thoughts and poetic texts interweave with the instrumental playing of these experienced musicians, and tender ballads meet energetic grooves. In addition to King's songs like "Home Again" or "I Feel the Earth Move," thematically fitting songs by other artists will also be performed.
