Summerweekconcerts Day1: - Jazz Versus Soccer - Maria Baptist Trio
Maria Baptist is one of the most prominent pianists and composers in contemporary jazz. Deutschlandfunk Kultur calls her "one of the great jazz musicians from Germany," and All About Jazz describes her piano style as "infinitely intelligent and stylish." She has been nominated five times for the German Record Critics' Award.
A central focal point of her music is the trio with Fabian Timm on bass and Heinz Lichius on drums. Here, the grand orchestral quality of her catalog becomes audible in an intimate format: compositions flow into one another and form suite-like frameworks, expansive dramatic arcs alternate between intimacy and power, improvisations run through the pieces and interweave with the material. In the series Five Special Nights: Trio & Guests, the trio first performs two concerts. Afterward, Maria Baptist expands the lineup on separate evenings with Philip Sindy, Gabriel Coburger, and Jan von Klewitz.
Line-Up:
Maria Baptist (piano)
