Since 1995, Andreas Schmidt has shaped Monday evenings at A-Trane with free improvisation sessions. The pianist, composer, and instructor at the Berlin Jazz Institute has realized approximately 900 concerts here with changing guests – including Jay Clayton, Hayden Chisholm, Dave Douglas, Walter Norris, Mark Murphy, Till Brönner, and many others. Schmidt's playing moves between Paul Bley's introspective aesthetic of the 1960s and Chick Corea's lyrical approach. His music is intellectually thoughtful without losing wit and humanity.
