The Weather Report Project honors the legendary fusion band Weather Report. The group, founded by Austrian keyboardist Joe Zawinul, American saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and Czech bassist Miroslav Vitouš, profoundly shaped fusion music. With changing lineups – including bassists such as Jaco Pastorius and Victor Bailey as well as drummers such as Peter Erskine and Airto Moreira – Weather Report developed a distinctive sound from keyboards, saxophone, bass, drums, and percussion. Music journalist Josef Woodard called the band in Down Beat 2001 the "best jazz band of the last 30 years of the 20th century".
