Gee Hye Lee invites Stephan Kirsch's Longhorns
The trombone unites assertiveness with fluidity – a quality that the Longhorns place at the center of their musical creation. Founded by bass trombonist and composer Stephan Kirsch, the ensemble is dedicated to exploring new sonic possibilities in jazz. With four trombonists, complemented by piano, bass, and drums, the group unfolds a powerful, energetic sound that openly and curiously traverses the multifaceted world of jazz.
The lineup shapes a distinctive sound: Alongside Stephan Kirsch and Eberhard Budziat, whose compositions significantly shape the group, Uli Röser – known for his collaboration with Udo Lindenberg – and Samuel Restle participate, winner of the Jazz Prize Baden-Württemberg 2025. Hosting the evening is Korean jazz pianist Gee Hye Lee, who brings her musical energy with great passion. The rhythm section with Yaron Stavi on bass and Felix Schrack on drums forms the finely tuned foundation. The focus is on original compositions: powerful, stylistically versatile, and deeply rooted in swing. An evening full of timbral colors and musical discoveries – proof that the trombone has long arrived in the present.
