Avishai Cohen Trio
Avishai Cohen Trio – The ensemble of Israeli double bassist Avishai Cohen
Avishai Cohen is an Israeli jazz double bassist, composer, singer, and arranger, born in Kabri, a kibbutz in northern Israel, with Sephardic, Greek-Jewish, and Polish-Jewish roots. Over the last 30 years, Cohen has developed into one of the heavyweights and leaders of contemporary jazz, with a catalog that rivals those of the most legendary jazz musicians. In 1996, he became a founding member of Chick Corea's Origin Sextet, and in 1997 he joined Corea's New Trio. During his six-year musical collaboration with Corea, Cohen refined his skills as a performer and composer.
Cohen's sound is a blend of Middle Eastern, Eastern European, and African American musical idioms. His compositions unite traditions, cultures, languages, and styles from Hebrew and Ladino folk songs to jazz standards and contemporary jazz. With his current established trio, Cohen presents music on tour from his latest album "Brightlight" (October 2024), featuring new original compositions and beloved pieces from his extensive repertoire. The current trio consists of pianist Guy Moskovich (28) and drummer Roni Kaspi (24).
