David Helbock & Julia Hofer Duo
Pianist David Helbock and bassist Julia Hofer form an acoustic duo reduced to its emotional essence – playful, curious, and characterized by immediate musical communication. The album "Faces of Night" was immediately chosen by The Times (UK) as one of the best jazz albums of 2025. The repertoire includes songs by Prince as well as Thelonious Monk's "Round Midnight," a cello-tinged version of George Gurdjieff's "Woman's Dance," a soul-funk interpretation of Eddie Harris' "Freedom Jazz Dance," and a surprising adaptation of motifs from Robert Schumann's A Minor Piano Concerto.
David Helbock was born on January 28, 1984 in Koblach and is an Austrian jazz musician. As a leading figure of Austrian jazz, he delights audiences worldwide with his projects at festivals across all continents. His virtuosity and creativity have earned him numerous awards, including multiple prizes at the world's largest jazz piano solo competition in Montreux (CH) as well as the "Outstanding Artist Award" from the Austrian federal government. Julia Hofer was born in 1994 in Klagenfurt and is known for her expressive work on electric bass, fretless bass, and cello. She is a member of the orchestra of Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and reaches a global audience with her Thomann tutorial videos, which have millions of views.
