The soulbandits have been performing since 2000, playing classics by Otis Redding, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and the Blues Brothers. In their current, completely revamped lineup, they perform with 5 horn players, 3 singers, and a 4-piece rhythm section. The soulbandits stand for newly arranged, handmade soul music, far removed from samples, overdubs, and synthetic sound production.

The repertoire encompasses classic soul and rhythm and blues from the 1960s as well as newer music by Joe Cocker, Macy Gray, Robbie Williams, and Peter Gabriel. Singer Christopher Bäumer describes the feeling of making music with the soulbandits as "unbridled energy, the urge to move and simply have fun with music."
