Mixed Generations: BLUFF with Olga Amelchenko
BLUFF IS PART OF OUR FUTURE, ALREADY NOW - said none other than Nils Landgren about three years ago. At that time, the young quartet with its home base in Hamburg had already attracted prominent attention in its northern German surroundings. With original compositions and strong influences from role models on the other side of the Atlantic, BLUFF had forged a "signature sound" and did so with a remarkable dynamic range - from rubato ballads à la Keith Jarrett to pieces with the force of Immanuel Wilkins, as well as all the nuances in between.
The four musicians understand each other intuitively and play together in the truest sense of the word, challenge each other, catch each other, and thereby radiate a joy of playing that transfers to the audience.
Another milestone now follows: Christian Höhn was selected with BLUFF as this year's mentee for the ninth edition of Mixed Generationsfrom The Jazz Federation e.V. format enables ambitious young Hamburg jazz musicians to invite an internationally renowned mentor of their choice for a few days of intensive exchange and artistic collaboration. Saxophonist and bandleader Olga Amelchenko, who performs with the WDR Big Band among others, is participating as mentor.
From seven highly qualified applications, a four-person jury chose Christian Höhn and his band. Mixed Generations is being supported by the ZEIT Stiftung Bucerius for the third time.
"A great band that somehow exists between really abstract melodic and harmonic approaches
yet still has absolute pop appeal and simply sounds incredibly good."
