
Jerry Weldon Quartet
Jerry Weldon is an American tenor saxophonist known for his work with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and Harry Connick Jr.'s Big Band. Weldon is one of the leading representatives of soul jazz and represents the legendary "bar-walkin', hard-blowing" tenor saxophonists of the contemporary American jazz scene. The internationally renowned veteran has over 45 years of experience in jazz with eight CDs as a leader and numerous recordings as a sideman.
After graduating from the Rutgers University Jazz Program in 1981, Weldon joined the legendary Lionel Hampton Orchestra and worked with Hampton until his death in 2002. In 1990, Weldon became a founding member and featured soloist of Harry Connick Jr.'s newly founded Big Band. Additionally, Weldon has collaborated with organists such as Jimmy McGriff, Joey DeFrancesco, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, trombonist Al Grey, pianists George Cables and Cedar Walton, drummers Roy Haynes and Jimmy Cobb, and guitarist George Benson.
