Schumann Festival // Jörg Kaufmann Trio
Scenes From Childhood – A jazz trio approaches Robert Schumann's romantic sound world in its own way: Jörg Kaufmann (saxophone, flutes), Mathias Haus (vibraphone) and Conrad Noll (double bass, cello) allow the character pieces to emerge anew in a transparent, chamber music jazz setting. It's not about crossover effects, but rather a careful retelling of the music. Melodic lines remain recognizable, harmonic colors shift, rhythms open new spaces. The poetic intimacy of the original is preserved – and at the same time illuminated with improvisational freedom.
The result is a distinctive sound world between Romanticism, modern jazz language and free improvisation: intimate, dialogical and surprisingly close to the emotional essence of the original. A song lasts only a few minutes – and yet can touch you immediately.
Part of the Schumann Festival 2026 in Düsseldorf (06.06.–26.06.), which poses questions under the motto "HOMELANDS": What does home mean today? Is it a place – or rather a memory, a relationship, a voice, a sound? The festival shows how music can preserve, question or reinvent homelands.
