Vincent Meissner Trio + special guest: Felix Hauptmann | live recording
The Vincent Meissner Trio is among the defining voices of contemporary German jazz. With pianist Vincent Meissner, bassist Josef Zeimetz, and drummer Henri Reichmann, the ensemble combines modern piano trio playing with catchy melodic turns and intense rhythmic dialogue. For this evening, the trio is joined by pianist and composer Felix Hauptmann, who is present in the Cologne scene with his work in jazz and improvised music.
The trio infuses its sound with rhythmic energy and pop-music lightness without losing emotional depth. The music conveys impressions of the present beyond words and evokes emotional experiences that transcend the tangible moment. Since their founding in 2017 in Dresden, the musicians have received numerous awards, including the German Jazz Union Promotion Prize (2019), the Central German German Jazz Prize (2020), and the International Biberach Jazz Prize (2022). Their album "Wille" (2023, ACT) was celebrated internationally; their latest release "Eigengrau" came out in 2025, also on ACT.
The trio has performed at major festivals throughout Europe, including Angrajazz Festival Azores (2021), Jazzopen Stuttgart (2022), Getxo Jazzfest (2023), and Off-Beat Basel (2024). MDR Kultur recognized in them "a new hope of German jazz," while Deutschlandfunk wrote: "a band that will take off like a rocket." The American magazine Something Else! describes their playing as "youthful freshness" in the classical piano trio format, in the tradition of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio and The Bad Plus.
