Okujou Beat moves between deep grooves, ambient soundscapes, trip-hop, house, and dancefloor jazz. The band combines live electronics with acoustic instruments and improvised interaction – a sound that invites both listening and immersion.

The project originated just a few streets away from Peppi Guggenheim on the roof of Klunkerkranich, where friends came together for their first sessions. The name also comes from there: Okujou – Japanese for "rooftop terrace." From these encounters, a monthly concert series soon developed, with the band regularly performing with changing guests.

As an open collective, Okujou Beat invites musicians from different scenes and creates ever-new sonic spaces between club culture and jazz.

Johannes Heger (bass), Izumi Yamamoto (keys), Chikara Aoshima (drums & electronics), and Petros Tzekos (percussion) interweave live electronics, multilayered polyrhythms, percussive textures, and funky grooves. Between these emerge dreamlike synth soundscapes and improvised sonic landscapes that appear, intensify, and dissolve back into the rhythm. Okujou Beat – this is film music without making a film. Okujou Beat – these are hours-long live music sessions that feel like minutes.
