Viktoria Tolstoy & Jacob Karlzon - Release Tour 2026 "Who We Are"
Viktoria Tolstoy and Jacob Karlzon present their new duo album "Who We Are," which was released on January 30, 2026. Over three decades, the two artists have built a musical dialogue characterized by trust, curiosity, and quiet boldness. The album is both a reflection and a continuation – an intimate conversation shaped by time, friendship, and change. The collaboration between the two began in the mid-1990s during a UK tour by Tolstoy. Since then, they have recorded six albums together, including "Letter To Herbie" (2011), a tribute to their shared idol Herbie Hancock, and "A Moment of Now" (2013), their first widely acclaimed duo recording.
Viktoria Tolstoy is a Swedish jazz singer of Russian descent, born on July 29, 1974. She is known for her flowing, emotional style and has worked closely with pianist Esbjörn Svensson and trombonist Nils Landgren to create her unique crossover sound of jazz, pop, and folk. Jacob Karlzon is a Swedish pianist, composer, and accompanist, born on October 19, 1970 in Jönköping. The Swedish jazz pianist and composer Jacob Karlzon is compared with Sweden's own legends Esbjörn Svensson and Jan Johansson. His playing style radiates technical brilliance, rhythmic and harmonic complexity with perfect sense of form.
The album "Who We Are" often sounds bigger than a duo, as Tolstoy's soulful jazz singing and Karlzon's energetic, harmonically diverse playing not only complement each other – they merge. The album contains eight original compositions by Jacob Karlzon as well as covers of Billy Joel, Tori Amos, and Thom Yorke. The Doubletime Jazz & Kultur Club in Hameln is a deliberately small club – essentially a "large living room" with professional standards and corresponding equipment including a Steinway & Sons concert grand piano.
