JT424: Kadri Voorand & Mihkel Mälgand
To celebrate the release of their new album Songs to Hold You, we present the duo Voorand/Mälgand. Kadri Voorand and Mihkel Mälgand impressed at their last concert here three years ago with a sold-out house – now they return with fresh material.
Kadri Voorand is one of the most extraordinary artists on the European vocal and jazz scene. The Estonian singer, pianist, songwriter, and producer moves between jazz, folk-pop, R&B, electronics, and improvised sonic worlds, creating a distinctive sound. With her congenial duo partner Mihkel Mälgand on bass, she has made waves internationally – from celebrated performances at European festivals to numerous awards, including the Estonian Music Awards for "Best Female Artist" and "Best Jazz Album."
Songs to Hold You marks a new turning point in Voorand's music: away from bold, expansive sound toward intimacy, warmth, and presence. The album combines new originals with cover versions – simple storytelling and "songs of the heart," guided by feeling rather than form. Voorand uses her voice as an instrument and shapes melody and rhythm with emotional sensitivity. Each concert unfolds as a shared experience: evocative, spontaneous, and moving.
