JT424: Matthieu Chazarenc – CANTO (F)
CANTO stands for pure southern French joie de vivre. The quartet of drummer Matthieu Charazenc in an unusual lineup with trumpet, accordion, and bass plays a colorful, multifaceted jazz born in France's southwest. The sound immediately evokes the sun, the heat, the spices, and the aromas of this wonderful region, north of the French-Spanish border. But influences from the Orient and the Caribbean can also be heard.
All musicians in the quartet have also gone through the rather intellectual Parisian jazz school and play in various modern and avant-garde ensembles. Here they can express their feelings.
CANTO III, the quartet's latest album, consists of twelve sensitive compositions with imaginative French names that recall chansons. Here Matthieu and his loyal friends and companions share the fruits of their thoughts, hopes, doubts, and emotions with us. The perfect film score for an imaginary film titled ON DIRAIT LE SUD.
