Lucas Kolbe & Tommy Crane: in motian.
in motian – a moment of pause amid constant movement. As part of his Artist in Residence project at HfMT Hamburg, Lucas Kolbe brings together an international ensemble around US drummer Tommy Crane. Inspired by the work of Paul Motian, an open, breathing soundscape unfolds, combining elements of jazz, ambient, and electronica.
Musicians from Germany, Australia, Turkey, and the USA bring their individual perspectives to the project, creating music full of nuance, transparency, and fluidity. Tommy Crane, who has gained international attention through his solo albums We Are All Improvisors Now and Dance Music For All Occasions as well as collaborations with artists such as Aaron Parks and Melissa Aldana, shapes the ensemble with his sensitive, open playing style. Together with the guitars of Ege Akyıldız and Danica Hobden as well as the basses of Tabea Kind and Lucas Kolbe, a flowing, organic sound emerges – music that breathes and unfolds in the moment.
