Peter Protschka Quartet
Peter Protschka was born in Cologne in 1977 and is considered one of the most versatile German jazz trumpeters of his generation. Since completing his jazz diploma at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim in 2003, he has been active as a jazz soloist and sought-after sideman on the German and European scene. His music is based on the American post-bop idiom, but always carries a very personal European note.
Protschka and American tenor saxophonist Rick Margitza maintain a long-standing friendship and collaboration in his annually touring jazz quintet, which has been performing throughout Europe since 2013 and has become a well-known institution in the German-speaking world. The quartet presents a program full of poetry and energy in the post-bop style, consisting exclusively of original compositions. Following the live album "Twilight Jamboree" (2015), the band released their first studio album "Hearts and Minds" on Challenge International in 2022.
Since 2024, Protschka has been a lecturer in jazz trumpet and ensemble at the Hochschule für Musik, Drama und Medien Hannover.
