The Famous Jazz Jam Session
A jam session is a relatively informal musical event in which musicians play improvised solos and variations over melodies, chord progressions, and songs. Jam sessions are an integral part of jazz. The format developed in the 1920s, when Black and white musicians sought opportunities to share their music despite the political climate of the time.
The Jazzkeller Frankfurt is Europe's oldest jazz club since 1952. The Jazzkeller is still THE place for live jazz in Germany and Frankfurt's "Village Vanguard." Throughout the year, you can see, feel, and hear some of the world's greatest jazz musicians up close in a relaxed atmosphere. The Jazzkeller is regularly open five nights a week; on Wednesdays, a jazz session takes place where new and experienced musicians jam together.
