The Story of Jazz - Open Air Summer Festival
The sixth International Open Air Summer Festival of "The Story of Jazz" takes place from June 25 to 28, 2026 in the garden area of Vienna's Metropol. The motto is "The Austrian High Flight" and showcases how Austria achieved a top position in the international jazz scene. The festival presents major names and rising newcomers from Austria, America, and around the world.
The small but fine jazz festival at Vienna's Metropol is oriented toward the legendary festivals of Newport, Nice, and Montreux. "The Story of Jazz" is a multi-part concert series about the most important epochs, styles, developments, and personalities of more than 120 years of jazz history. Kurt Prohaska, a Viennese jazz pianist and student of the legendary Hank Jones, directs the festival musically. In addition to jazz, the program offers great food & cool drinks.
