Flip Philipp Quintet feat. Bertl Mayer - Joe Zawinul's early works
Flip Philipp dedicates himself to the early compositions of Joe Zawinul and finds new paths to the roots of his music with a very special ensemble. Flip Philipp, percussionist with the Vienna Symphonics, met Zawinul in the course of a guest performance that he conducted. Joe Zawinul shaped the international music scene as a pioneering figure of fusion jazz like no other. In 1966 – already in New York – he wrote the song "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" for the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, which became a hit of soul jazz. Joe Zawinul learned bebop from the ground up and then increasingly distanced himself from the "theme solo theme" principle and harmonic structure, attempting to let his music emerge holistically and in the moment.
Line-Up:

Klemens Marktl – drums
Hans Strasser – bass
Bertl Mayer – harmonica
