Avin Ahmadi / Sanam Maroufkhani - Salam Music & Arts Festival
Avin Ahmadi, an Iranian oud player, singer, and composer, presents her debut EP "Liminal" live for the first time at Salam Music. At just 21 years old, she is considered one of the most exciting new voices in the Austrian music scene. Accompanied by her ensemble, Avin Ahmadi unfolds a sensitive yet powerful musical dialogue in which poetry, melody, and improvisation are woven together. For the second part of her EP presentation, Avin Ahmadi invites Tehran-born, Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter Sanam Maroufkhani and presents a selection of Sanam Maroufkhani's works together with her ensemble.
Avin Ahmadi was born into an artistic family, discovered her passion for the oud early on, and studied at the conservatory in Tehran. After graduating, she moved to Vienna to further develop her musical career. She is currently studying jazz improvisation at Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, collaborates with renowned musicians from various genres, and successfully tours Europe with her solo project. Sanam Maroufkhani is an Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter whose music grows from deep curiosity about sound and its emotional reach, and often extends into interdisciplinary collaborations with moving images. Her compositions develop through repeated piano patterns that reflect her interest in minimalism, while her songwriting carries an intimate and personal tone. Through quiet reflections and keen observations, Sanam Maroufkhani's music moves between strength and vulnerability. Her voice tells her own story, but reaches beyond it and touches social and political realities that shape our shared world. Rooted in her Iranian heritage, she weaves SWANA influences and Persian lyrics into the language of Western alternative pop.
